Like most of you, my days are packed! It is easy to get overwhelmed with all the items on our to-do list. I have been one to keep a loose schedule, but when I wrote everything down, I didn’t see how I could do it all until I tried block scheduling. My best friends suggested it to me and raved about how great it was working for her. I knew first hand how full her plate was, and if she liked it, I had to try it.
5:30am-7:00am | 8:00am-11:00am | 11:00am-2:00pm | 2:00pm-3:00pm | 3:00pm-5:00pm | 5:00pm- 8:00pm | 8:00pm-10:30pm |
10:30pm- 5:45 am |
Block scheduling forced me to be more cognizant on how I spent my time. It also released me from my overwhelming need to finish everything in one sitting. Instead, I will allow myself to get to a certain point, then I will move on to something else. With me being in graduate school, working full time, running an online shop, writing, and my personal life, this has helped tremendously. I even reignited my love for reading because I carve out an hour block during the week to read, either right after work as a way to unwind or before bed. I always said I never had time to read because I was so busy, but I never made time to read. I’ve read three books consistently and consecutively since December and am finishing up the third. I even schedule my bedtime. Sleep and rejuvenation are important and when I’m tired and foggy, I am not productive and end up just wasting time.
I will continue to use block scheduling to get the most out of my day.
Have you tried this method of time management? What other tactics do you find useful?
