Many would argue we have entered into another civil rights era. With social media being so prolific, we unfortunately have front row seats to the horrific situations that often lead to the deaths of many Black Americans across the country. For every Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, there are many more that don’t make the news. For example, we learned about Elijah’s McClain’s death almost a year later. People have been stepping up and speaking up by using the platforms they have in their respective industries to envoke change. Brandon Blackwood is doing it with fashion.
The ESR (End Systemic Racism) Mini Tote was created to be “functional, practical, and make a statement” (Brandon Blackwood). A portion of the proceeds for this tote will go toward Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, a non-profit that offers pro bono services for African Americans and other ethnic minorities.
“The principal mission of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is to secure equal justice for all through the rule of law, targeting in particular the inequities confronting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities. The Lawyers’ Committee is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, formed in 1963 to enlist the private bar’s leadership and resources in combating racial discrimination and the resulting inequality of opportunity – work that continues to be vital today”Brandon Blackwood.
The ESR Mini Tote is on pre-sale for $50 and purchased made after August 27, 2020 will begin shipping at the end of September.
