There is nothing like a good work tote. They are versatile, sturdy, and holds all of our life’s necessities we juggle on a daily basis, and often come with us on our travels. While there are definitely more popular brands that makes this staple, there are minority designers producing quality goods as well. This list is no where near all inclusive, but hopefully will start you down the path of looking to POC designers for your everyday essentials. The bags are listed below in no particular order.
Agnes Baddoo’s Sac 1 Bag

Affectionately known as the “Bushwick Birkin” Telfar’s Shopping Bag’s quickly garnered a cult following in 2020. They are marketed as “Not for you – for everyone” and boast an accessible price tag to match. The Shopping Bag comes in small, medium, and large sizes (and a whopping 20+ colorways!), but the medium is the bag that may be more practical for everyday.
I let out an audible gasp when I saw this collection. LOVE! The tiered floral mini dress??!! I have to have it! This collection is so good, I can’t wait! Christopher John Rogers is a Black American designer based in New York. He has dressed A-list celebrities such as Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Lizzo and First Lady Michelle Obama. He and most recently came into more prominence after it was revealed her dress Vice President Kamala Harris on Inauguration Day.
This collection will be apart of Target’s Designer dress Collection that began with the Cushnie collection last year. The size range is from XXS-4X and the cost will max out at $60. The collection will debut later this spring (May 16) so keep your eyes peeled. I know I am!

I now know the campaign released pictures and video about a month ago now, but since I am not shopping as often, it didn’t cross my radar until recently, and as the kids say now, “It’s the turbans for me!”
The rich jewel toned and metallic turbans paired with flowy Earth toned pieces against the arid back drop is *chef’s kiss.

The young poet and Harvard graduate is the first National Youth Poet Laureate for any presidential administration. Can we say #history? Now she graces the the cover of one of the most coveted magazine in the fashion industry.
Coach has teamed up with Champion, an athletic brand that has regained popularity over the past few years, for a limited edition collection. It includes purses, belt bags, leather jogger sets and more! Prices range from $250-$2,300. The leather joggers are going fast!
In the words of Oprah, “One thing I know for sure” is that Beyonce’s Ivy Park collections always sell out and they sell out fast. I vastly underestimated these facts and thought just heading to the Adidas website at the moment it would be releaswd would be sufficient. I was wrong, so wrong. I missed out and was bummed. I did score with the second collection and here is what I did differently.
1. Sign Up to the Adidas Mailing List
Once one the mailing list, check it frequently as the days wind down to launch date. That is where you you get a time window where you can preview the collection and add items to your cart. You cannot check out, but add items to your cart. Check it frequently as my times changed a few times.
2. Download the Adidas App
I shopped the app with black amd tan collection and (narrowly) scored the items I was coveting. The app is really pushed as the medium to shop from.
3. Look at the Sizing
Before you “add to cart'”, be mindful of the sizing of the pieces you’re eyeing. The collection has womens, plus, and unisex sizing.
4. Stay by the Phone
I set a timer counting down to my alotted shop time and when I was about a minute out, I immediately clicked the button to check out. I did that because when the app opened to everyone, those who had items in their cart were also checking out. My items added to my cart at about 5 secs after the collection was available to shop. It was intense!

Beyonce and Co. won’t let us breathe! She’s been promoting her new Ivy Park winter collection, “Icy Park”, with celebs like rapper Gucci Mane and Hailey Beiber a part of the ad campaign. The collection releases Feb 19, 2021 and I am sure itbwill sell out like the previous drops.
Owner of one of the first African American modeling agencies, Ophelia DeVore-Mitchell was a native of Edgefield, South Carolina. She relocated to New York City in the 1930s with her family. It was there she would enter into the Vogue School of Modeling at the age of seventeen. Ophelia would model for seven years before deciding to open up her own modeling agency to aid African American in overcoming society’s stereotypes and succeed in the fashion world.
The Grace del Marco Model Agency opened in 1946, and in 1948 the Ophelia DeVore-Mitchell School of Self Development and Modeling would open for business. Her notable clients included legendary performers Dianne Carroll, Cicely Tyson, Faith Evans, Gail Fisher, and Susan Taylor. Passionate about the exposure of African Americans in fashion, Mrs. DeVore-Mitchell would start a fashion column in the Pittsburgh Courier eventually expanding to the Columbus Times in Georgia. Not stopping there, she would create a cosmetics line in 1959. Her business ventures include but aren’t limited to television production, board and committee member of various agencies, including the resident’s advisory committee for the Kenny Center for the Performing Arts.
Ophelia DeVore-Mitchell passed away on February 28, 2014 in New York. She was 92 years old.
